The practice of composing and proclaiming creeds (the word \u201ccreed\u201d derives from the Latin \"credo,\" meaning \u201cI believe\u201d) dates back to the very beginnings of the Church. Consequently, we find summaries of the faith of God\u2019s covenant people in both the Old Testament (Deut. 6:4) and the New Testament (Matt. 16:16; 1 Cor. 15:3\u20134; Eph. 4:4\u20136; 1 Tim. 3:16).<\/p>

At Covenant Church, we believe and profess that the ancient Christian creeds\u2014namely, the Apostles\u2019 Creed<\/a>, the Nicene Creed<\/a>, the Athanasius Creed<\/a>, and the Three Forms of Unity<\/a>, namely, the Belgic Confession<\/a>, the Heidelberg Catechism<\/a>, and the Canons of Dort<\/a>. These documents contain our doctrinal standards and the content of our faith. The ancient creeds connect us to the early Christian church, while the Three Forms of Unity connect us to the broad Reformed tradition of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.<\/p>

As a Christian church, our foundational document is the Bible, the inerrant Word of God. The fundamental beliefs of the Bible\u2014namely, that there is one and only one God, who exists eternally as the Trinity, and that Jesus Christ, our Savior, is both true God and true man\u2014are expressed in these three creeds by the early Christian church. The Belgic Confession states, \u201cWe wholeheartedly accept the three creeds\u201d (Article 9), because they are ecumenical and have been accepted by the majority of Christian churches.<\/p>

As a Reformed church, we belong to the churches that follow the Reformation and acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Head of His church. He rules and governs His church through His holy Word and the Holy Spirit, not through human dictatorship. Therefore, although all our clergy sign these confessions and creeds, acknowledging their full conformity with God\u2019s Word, the authority of these documents is always subordinate to the Bible, God\u2019s inerrant and inspired Word. It was precisely in this context that our spiritual forefathers composedthe Three Forms of Unity<\/a>:the Belgic Confession<\/a>,the Heidelberg Catechism<\/a>,the Canons of Dort<\/a>. All pastors, elders, deacons must signthe Form of Subscription<\/a>\u4e0a\u7b7e\u5b57\uff0c\u627f\u8bfa\u4ed6\u4eec\u5fc5\u5b9a\u7aed\u5c3d\u5168\u529b\u7ef4\u62a4\u5e76\u4f20\u626c\u8fd9\u4e9b\u6559\u4e49\u51c6\u5219\u4e2d\u6240\u5305\u542b\u7684\u4fe1\u4ef0\u3002\u6211\u4eec\u6240\u7528\u7684\u8fd9\u4efdthe Form of Subscription<\/a>\u662f\u4ece\u5b97\u6559\u6539\u9769\u65f6\u671f\u6d41\u4f20\u4e0b\u6765\uff0c\u53ea\u6709\u7ec6\u5fae\u7684\u4fee\u8ba2\u3002<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
